An active lifestyle following hip and knee replacement surgeries

  • John and his wife, Bonnie

When John, a retired Navy and commercial airline pilot, was exploring his options for joint replacement surgery, the decision was an easy one. He knew exactly where he would go for care: Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

His wife of more than 50 years, Bonnie, had recently retired from her career as an orthopaedic registered nurse at Abbott Northwestern. She had worked with James Larson, MD, a surgeon with Sports & Orthopaedic Specialist and Abbott Northwestern's Joint Replacement Center. Her personal experience with the hospital and surgeon gave John all the confidence he needed to know that he was in the right place.

Following his 2004 hip replacement and his 2010 knee replacement surgeries, John leads an active lifestyle, which includes biking, travel, gardening and volunteering at church. Overall, he describes his care and outcomes as "an excellent experience."
