Pain management treatments are often used when symptoms persist and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications don’t offer relief. Your journey to managing pain may involve physical therapy, pain psychology, interventional pain procedures or other treatment options.

Pain psychology

Pain psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy can help you reduce pain.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy can help you reduce pain, prevent injury and recover from surgery.

Injections and procedural interventions

Your provider may refer you to a specialist for non-invasive treatment options, procedures and medications as needed to reduce your discomfort and pain.

Injections and procedural options include:

  • Botox® injections. Can treat pain, headaches and muscle spasms by blocking pain signals from your nerves to your muscles.
  • Trigger point injections. Can reduce headaches, nerve, spine and muscle pain caused by unhealthy, damaged or stressed muscle tissue.
  • Radiofrequency ablation. A procedure that can reduce spine pain by interrupting pain signals with a radiofrequency current.
  • Trigeminal nerve block. An injection of local anesthetic or steroid medicine can reduce headaches or facial pain.
  • Stellate ganglion block. Can reduce pain by injecting numbing medicine into the nerve causing pain.
  • Occipital nerve block. Numbs the occipital nerve located above your neck in the back of your head.
  • Facet joint injections. Can diagnose or treat spine pain using a local anesthetic (a numbing agent) or steroid medication.
  • Blood patch procedure. Can reduce headaches and spine pain caused by a leak of cerebral spinal fluid in your back.
  • Sympathetic block. Can reduce pain by numbing a nerve causing the pain.
  • Sacroiliac joint injections. Can diagnose and treat pain caused by a damaged or dysfunctional sacroiliac joint.
  • Epidural steroid injections. Can reduce chronic spine pain by reducing swelling and inflammation.
