Bone density - DXA

The bone densitometry service for Unity Hospital is located in ambulatory care at Unity Hospital. The service is available Monday through
Friday, with early morning and evening appointments available.
There is no preparation for this examination. You may go about normal daily activities. Eating, drinking and taking medications will not affect the results of the exam. However, it is recommended not to take calcium supplements the day of the exam.
The test takes approximately 45 minutes. You will be instructed by the technologist to lie still on a table while images are being captured.
There are no side effects with this exam. You may resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. Your physician will receive the results and notify you within one week.
