The Stroke Center at Unity Hospital is certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. The Center provides an integrated and comprehensive approach to stroke care from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation, while offering evidence-based, best-of-practice acute care and rehabilitation.
Emergency care
- Neurologist and neurosurgery coverage 24 hours per day
- Diagnostic technology, such as MRI, MR angiography, dual-source CT scanner with angiography
- Immediate assessment, intervention and management of acute stroke within the Emergency Department, including clot-busting medications
Inpatient care
- Award-winning Intensive Care Unit with specially trained registered nurses
- Designated inpatient unit for stroke care with cardiac monitoring capabilities
- Inpatient nursing staff with special training in stroke care
- Surgery to treat hemorrhage, and carotid endarterectomy for narrowed blood vessels
- Written protocols with evidence-based guidelines, directed by neurology and neurosurgeons and critical care
- Multidisciplinary discharge planning
