We are the leading cancer care program in the North Metro area with a mission to provide fully integrated, comprehensive cancer services (prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure) that support research efforts, establish collaborative physician models and deliver care to our communities.

Our Cancer Resource Centers at Mercy and Unity Hospitals provide vital information and support to individuals, family members and providers who are concerned about cancer. Patients and visitors have access to both centers. It is a place to gain knowledge and to experience support. Open to anyone who needs a moment of peace, the Centers are staffed by caring, compassionate volunteers and staff who are willing to talk and share cancer resources. The Centers offer visitors opportunities to regain control, self-esteem and hope for the future through the power of information and the warmth of human compassion and support.

The Cancer Program at Mercy and Unity Hospitals offer all of the services of comprehensive cancer care including risk assessment and genetics counseling, cancer screening, diagnostic and interventional radiology, and treatment by surgery, radiation therapy and medical oncology. Ongoing care is provided for those in remission as well as for those living with cancer. Care is given in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

The Foundation is currently working with the Hospitals on funding opportunities for a new integrated cancer center to be built on the Unity Hospital campus. The Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Unity Hospital will feature fully integrated, comprehensive cancer services (prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure).

In addition, we are seeking support to fund key Cancer Resource Center initiatives such as the Cancer Patient Emergency Fund. Cancer patients frequently experience financial challenges due to their illnesses. This fund helps patients pay for medical expenses to continue their treatments, but it also helps patients meet daily living expenses— rent, food, childcare and the like—when they cannot work because of their cancer.
