Golf
Classic Raises Over $60k for Patient Emergency
Fund
The 11th Annual Foundation Golf Classic,
held on Mon., July 2 at North Oaks Golf Club, was a great
success!

With the support our generous sponsors and participants,
the sold-out event raised a tournament record: over
$60,000! Proceeds from this event will support the Mercy
and Unity Patient Emergency Fund. The fund assists Mercy
and Unity hospital patients who are struggling financially
because of chronic, and in some instances severe but acute,
medical conditions. The fund allows the hospitals’
Social Services departments to provide assistance to patients
for unexpected and urgent needs they are otherwise unable to
afford. Examples may include prescriptions,
transportation (bus, taxi and medical van), safety equipment
(infant car seat), household items, and emergency nutritional
needs.
Special thanks go to the Golf Classic Committee members:
co-chairs Don Haller (Connexus Energy) and
John Stoltenberg, M.D., Larry Crane (Northeast Bank),
Adam Dooley (The
Standard), Brian Kovar (AID Electric), Helen
McClintock (Mercy Auxiliary), Brad Severson (Lake Air Companies)
and Jim Steffen (Trott Brook
Financial). To view a slideshow of

Grateful
Patients Honor Our 'Every Day Heros'
Every Day
Hero is a program that allows grateful patients and visitors
the opportunity to say "thank you" for the exceptional care
they received during their stay or visit, as well as support
the Unity and Mercy hospitals with a financial
donation.
 The Foundation recently
received two gifts from patients honoring Mercy
Hospital Heart & Vascular staff and physicians
William McMillan, M.D. and Jeff Chambers, M.D.
As one
grateful patient recalls, "On June 6 I had a stint inserted by
Dr. McMillan and my experience couldn't have been
better. Everything went well. The staff members
were very kind and thoughtful."
Another patient
writes, "Dr. Chambers was in the right spot as I was wheeled
in to the Emergency Department in July with a blockage in
my artery. He even helped push the gurney down the hall
to the Operating Room and within an hour, implanted three
stints and I was able to go home two days later. I am
extremely grateful to Dr. Chambers and all
involved.
Sometimes the simplest gestures can
have the greatest impact on our health and healing. If
you or a loved one encountered someone who made your visit to
our hospitals special, consider making a gift in their honor
and recognizing them as an Every Day Hero.
