Save the date for the 2014 Service to Humanity Gala, September 27

The Service to Humanity Gala is one of the largest fundraising events in the Twin Cities. In the metro-area funding events are ranked by gross revenue and the Gala is ranked 7th of 25. Since 2003, more than $11 million has been raised to benefit programs and services of United Hospital.

During the Service to Humanity Gala, we present the Service to Humanity Award to both a community member and a physician associated with United Hospital who have demonstrated selfless dedication and exemplary leadership in improving the health and welfare of St. Paul residents and the communities we serve.

2014 honorees

Physician honoree: Patricia Penovich, MD

Dr. Penovich specializes in neurology and practices at Minnesota Epilepsy Group in St. Paul, MN. Widely renowned for outstanding epilepsy care, she is passionate about treating women of childbearing age. She joined United Hospital staff in 1994 as medical director of Neurology and Epilepsy. She was named The Bentson Chair of the John Nasseff Neuroscience Institute at United Hospital in 2014.

Community honoree: Moe Sharifkhani

Moe Sharifkhani, owner of the Downtowner Woodfire Grill and Burger Moe’s, has a core belief in sharing the success he’s found in America with the community around him – giving back to those he calls his friends and neighbors. That’s one reason he’s been a supporter and advocate of his community hospital, United, through the United Hospital Foundation for the past 26 years.

United Hospital Golf Classic, July 28, 2014, White Bear Yacht Club

Established over 20 years ago, the United Hospital Golf Classic has a long tradition of being an exceptional amateur golf event. Over $2 million has been raised, with proceeds benefiting the Peter J. King Family Health Center, Nasseff Neuroscience Center, Breast Center, Lipschultz Guest Apartments, Nasseff Heart Center, Peter J. King Emergency Care Center at United Hospital and Elaine S. Larson Surgical Center.

In metro area fundrasing golf events ranked by gross revenue, the Golf Classic is ranked 13 out of 25.

Proceeds from the 2014 golf tournament benefit the Mother Baby Center at United and Children's - St. Paul.

The 2013 tournament had 120 golfers and raised $150,000 for the Elaine S. Larson Surgical Center at United Hospital. Congratulations to the 2013 winning team Tom Bonfe, Eric McCabe, Rob Bovee and Mike Gallagher – the foursome from King Capital.

3M Championship Senior PGA Tournament

The 2014 3M Senior PGA Championship is held at the Tournament Players Club in Blaine on
July 28 - August 3.

The 2013 tournament netted more than $1.3 million to benefit United, Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and Unity Hospitals. Thank you to 3M, title sponsor, and all the sponsors, volunteers and spectators who made this event a success. Tom Pernice, Jr. held off a Sunday charge by Jeff Sluman and Corey Pavin to claim the 21st 3M Championship title. Pernice's three-day total was 17 under par.
