The Breast Center offers women and their families the expertise, information and support they need to make choices about breast care – all in a comfortable and private setting.
Your breast care team
At the Breast Center, your care team includes doctors and health care professionals who specialize in diagnosing and caring for women with breast cancer.
The Breast Center care team also includes certified mammography technologists, registered nurses, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, genetic counselors, cancer rehabilitation physicians, physical therapists and plastic/reconstructive surgeons.
Screening and diagnostic tests
Understanding the signs, symptoms and risk factors for breast cancer is important to overall breast health awareness.
Routine mammography, clinical breast examination and breast self-examination are the basic screening tools for early detection of breast cancer.
Breast Center's advanced screening and diagnostic services can also detect and evaluate breast conditions such as a new lump, cysts, microcalcifications, fibrocystic breast changes, mastitis, concerns about breast implants and cancer.
If you have a diagnosis of breast cancer or another problem that requires treatment, an individualized plan will be developed between you and your physician. After a detailed evaluation of your medical concern, and a discussion of your personal issues and preferences, the team at the Breast Center will recommend treatment options.
A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts. It is used to find tumors and to help tell the difference between noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) disease.
Bone density scanning
A bone mineral density (BMD) test/scan measures how much calcium and other types of minerals are present in a section of your bone.
Sage Screening Program
The Breast Center participates in the Minnesota Department of Health's Sage Screening Program. This program is dedicated to increasing the number of women who are screened for breast and cervical cancer. It provides free screening and follow-up services to uninsured and underinsured women.
