Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute's inpatient rehabilitation units provide a comfortable environment, where each patient can receive therapeutic care and practice daily living activities. Patients also benefit from counseling, education, 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care and a daily visit with a physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor (physiatrist).

Sister Kenny's inpatient unit at United Hospital is on the eighth floor and is called Unit 8940. The unit has 16 beds.

Patient therapy hours

Monday to Saturday:
8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sunday: as needed

Family members or friends who will be helping patients at home are encouraged and expected to participate in therapy sessions. They also may attend education sessions and outings.

Visiting hours

Monday to Sunday:
8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Visitors should come after therapy sessions are completed, usually after 4:30 p.m. Please call Unit 8940 at 651- 241-5580 to ask when your loved one will be available.

At United Hospital

  • Patients are encouraged to eat together in the dining area.
  • A lounge with movies, books, games and therapy practice items offers patients and their families a place to be together and relax. A computer is available for accessing the Internet or e-mail.
  • State-of-the-art equipment includes the gait therapy system, which supports the body's weight to help patients walk.

Our patients

Sister Kenny Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation accepts patients ages 18 and older at United Hospital. Children may be considered on a case-by-case basis and accepted with the approval of the physician-in-chief.
