Kenny Grad School is an education series for people with spinal cord injuries or strokes and their families and care providers.

Kenny Grad School provides a bimonthly forum for exploring ongoing issues along with identifying networking opportunities in the community. Presenters come from a variety of backgrounds, including physiatry, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychology, social work, nutrition, therapeutic recreation, and even lay people in the community.

Kenny Grad School for Persons with Spinal Cord Injury

Each session is led by experts on different topics and includes plenty of time for group discussion. Topics for upcoming sessions include:

Sessions are offered every other month, on the third Tuesday evening, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute at Abbott Northwestern Hospital – second floor, therapy gym, unless otherwise noted.

Stroke Lecture Series

Stroke survivors and their care partners are invited to Kenny Grad School: 2013 Stroke Lecture Series. This free information series features presentations by experts from Sister Kenny Rehabilitation Institute on topics related to recovery and living life after a stroke.

  • March 19 – When Therapy is Over, What's Next? Discussion of late consequences of stroke and ways to maintain therapy gains.
  • April 16 – How a Healthy Lifestyle Can Prevent Stroke and Enhance Healing
  • June 18 – Tips for Outsmarting Thinking Changes After Stroke
  • July 16 – A Round Table Discussion Addressing the Emotional Needs of Stroke Survivors and their Care Partners
  • September 17 – Exploring Tai Chi After a Stroke
  • October 15 – Stroke Roundtable

The classes alternate between Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. All classes are from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month.
