AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill
Defying gravity with the AlterG
The AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill provides a new standard of care in rehabilitation and training. By defying gravity, it gives patients the opportunity to exercise without pain, even while recovering from surgery or injury.
Its patented Differential Air Pressure (DAP) technology, developed at NASA, applies a comfortable and uniform lifting force to the body, integrated into a high-tech treadmill.
The AlterG's unique unweighting technology reduces the impact of walking or running on joints and muscles.
Ryan Smith, PT, DPT and site coordinator of Sister Kenny Sports & Physical Therapy in Apple Valley, blogs about the benefits of the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill.
Benefits of the AlterG
Initial appointment instructions
"The AlterG took the fear out of returning to training. It enabled me to begin running six weeks before my doctor cleared me to run on the ground and allowed me to incrementally transition back to full training."
Shannon Rowbury, distance runner
Your first appointment will be 1:1 with a physical therapist. The therapist will perform an assessment and recommend an exercise program that incorporates your goals and the therapist's findings.
The therapist will acquaint you with the equipment, and assist with set-up, entry and exit. After the initial appointment, you will use the AlterG independently.
Communication with your therapist
At the time of your first appointment, you will be given your therapist's phone number and/ or e-mail address. If you choose e-mail, all messages from the therapist will be encrypted for security. You will be guided in setting up a Cisco Iron Works security account free of charge.
For those who are under a provider's care for rehabilitation and will be submitting their AlterG treatment to their insurance provider, a medical referral is required.
For those not under a physician’s care, who want to improve performance and prevent injuries from overuse, a medical referral is not needed. This is a retail service and cannot be billed to your health insurance. Payment will be due at the time of check-in.
Two types of initial appointments are available. Both types are one-to-one sessions with a physical therapist trained in the use of the AlterG.
Includes comprehensive running or gait analysis, including video analysis, AlterG-specific shorts, and 25 minutes on AlterG.
