Whitney and Aaron DeGross enjoy a quiet moment with their daughter, Blair Harper, who was born January 2, 2014, at the River Falls Area Hospital Birth Center.
New mom finds comfort and care at home in Wisconsin
But a lot had to happen before this special delivery could take place. Whitney married Aaron in January 2013 and found out in May that she was pregnant. At the time, Whitney was an airman first class in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Oklahoma. Upon learning of her pregnancy, she decided to leave the military and return home to Wisconsin. She and Aaron purchased a house in Hammond in October 2013.
With her due date approaching, Whitney needed to find a new obstetrician — quickly.
Whitney and Aaron first met Michael Tiffany, DO, when she was 32 weeks pregnant, and the timing couldn’t have been better. Tiffany, a new OB/GYN at the River Falls Medical Clinic, had just started seeing patients on November 4 — exactly when Whitney called to make her first appointment.
Whitney and Tiffany hit it off right away. “Dr. Tiffany has a good sense of humor, which I like. He was informative and made me feel confident in giving birth and becoming a new parent," Whitney said.
'They made me feel at home'
Of her experience delivering at the River Falls Birth Center, Whitney said it couldn’t have been better.
"I felt spoiled and didn’t want to leave," she said. "It was a comfortable experience to deliver at the River Falls Birth Center. They made me feel at home, and I had full trust in Dr. Tiffany."
"Our top priority is patient satisfaction," said Birth Center Manager Julie McGary. "Everyone here — from our doctors to our nurses — is focused on providing patients with a great experience and care that’s individualized to meet their needs."
Top training for all kinds of deliveries
About 200 babies are born at the Birth Center each year. The center features four private birth suites. Because the Birth Center is part of Allina Health, its staff receives the same training as the staff at larger facilities and can handle all types of deliveries, including vaginal births, Cesareans and vaginal births after C-sections.
Whitney and Aaron also feel comfortable with the pediatrician they selected to care for little Blair Harper after they left the hospital: Amber Morgan, MD. Like most new moms, Whitney has a lot of questions. "You can tell Dr. Morgan has kids of her own. Every time I have concerns, she assures me that everything is normal," she said.
