A national leader
Founded in 2003, the Penny George Institute is the largest integrative health center embedded in a health system in the country.
We have helped tens of thousands of individuals on their path to health or healing through our clinics, fitness center and services for hospitalized patients.
Our mission and approach
The Penny George Institute's mission is to empower individuals and communities to improve their health and wellness by partnering with them and providing exceptional care.
Our programs and services are grounded in a holistic, integrative health approach. This means our providers:
We were founded at Abbott Northwestern Hospital as the "Institute for Health and Healing" by the George Family Foundation and the Ted and Roberta Mann Foundation.
In 2008, we were renamed the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing to honor integrative health philanthropist Penny George.
George is a national leader in advocating for integrative health. Her passion in this area stems from her own recovery from breast cancer, and she credits integrative health as providing a foundation for her recovery. Through her experience, she discovered the power of integrative health and the need for a more holistic approach in conventional medicine.
She has said, "Integrative health has the potential to fundamentally change the face of health care today. The institute is a philosophical and clinical manifestation of that promise."
