Labyrinth
What is a labyrinth?
A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that defines sacred space. It represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. A labyrinth is not a maze but a single circuitous path that winds to the center. The way in is
the way out. The labyrinth is a spiritual tool used as a means to:
- quiet the mind
- find balance
- meditate or pray
Extending the healing environment
The labyrinth allows people to bring to the experience of walking, their own unique heritage and doctrinal beliefs. It is appropriate for all traditions and people of
all faiths.
Walking the labyrinth will be a personal and individual experience.
Some will use the walk for clearing the mind or centering. Others enter with a prayer or a concern. Your walk can be a healing and sometimes profound experience, or it can
be just a pleasant walk. Each time will be different.
Location on the healthcare campus
The labyrinth will be wheelchair accessible, and will be located adjacent to the healing garden on the north side of the hospital. It will be connected by the walking path to
Homestead Hospice House, the planned long-term care center, and Owatonna Clinic, as well as to the hospital.
How will the labyrinth be used?
The labyrinth will be available to Owatonna Hospital, long-term care, and hospice patients and their families, as well as the healthcare campus staff and the greater
Owatonna-area community. Any group of adults or youth can also use the labyrinth as a planned activity.
A collaboration
The healing labyrinth project is coordinated by the Owatonna Parish Nurse Group in partnership with the Owatonna Hospital Foundation.
This project provides an opportunity for individuals and congregations of all Owatonna-area faith communities to come together to provide a gift that will enhance
the healing environment of the hospital campus – mind, body, and spirit.
Funding
The labyrinth will be funded entirely by tax-deductible gifts from individuals and groups. These gifts can also be designated in memory of, or in honor of,
any individual or group.
Landscaping features, such as benches and garden art will also provide opportunities for giving.
