Our staff has decades of experience helping babies and their families get started. We offer care for pregnancy and childbirth and work with you to make your birth personal and comfortable. Obstetric specialty physicians, family medicine physicians and pediatric specialty physicians staff, and experienced obstetric nurses staff our Birth Center. Each nurse in our Birth Center is specially trained in labor and delivery, and newborn care. We have your best interests at heart, so we offer a variety of pain control options during labor. You will experience labor and delivery in a comfortable, home-like private suite. Each labor and delivery room features a sleeper chair, telephone, DVD player and full bathroom, as well as, equipment needed for your birth, such as fetal monitor to measure your contractions, the baby's heart rate and other vital signs. All mothers will recover in private labor room. Your baby has been close to you for many months and thrives on the security of your familiar presence. Caring for your baby in your room gives you a wonderful opportunity to get to know your baby’s unique personality and to learn about or review infant care and feeding. Your nurse provides care for you and your baby in the comfort of your room. Breastfeeding and baby care is offered 24 hours a day by our highly trained staff. A lactation consultant is available to assist you with breastfeeding. Expert guidance from our staff is available throughout your stay. ScreeningsNewborn hearing and metabolic screens are done prior to discharge to assure your baby has a healthy start. Classes and support groupsThe Birth Center at New Ulm Medical Center is dedicated to making the birth of your baby a joyous experience. Our childbirth educators offer a variety of classes specially designed to assist you in preparing for the pregnancy and birth of your baby. We are a dedicated team, and we encourage families to be involved early in pregnancy so you become active participants in your birth experience. We work closely with your physician to give you and your baby excellent care during your stay with us. For more details or to sign Childbirth Education ClassThis series of four classes is designed to prepare the expectant mother and her labor companion for the birth of her baby. Participants should begin this series of classes during the 6th or 7th month (24-28 weeks) of pregnancy. Childbirth Refresher ClassThis series of two classes is designed for parents who have attended the Childbirth Education Class with an earlier pregnancy or are seeking a condensed refresher course. This class joins the Childbirth Education Class series. Breast/Bottle Feeding ClassThis class is for expectant mothers who have questions regarding breast and/or bottle feeding who are not already enrolled in the Childbirth Education Class. This class joins the Childbirth Education Class series. Baby and MeThis class helps prepare 3 to 7 year old children for the arrival of a new sibling. Breastfeeding Support GroupThis group provides support for breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women. It meets every 3rd Monday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room 2324.
