Four Allina hospitals earn top rankings in U.S. News Best Hospitals report

 07/19/2011--Allina Hospitals & Clinics has two hospitals with specialty rankings among the nation's top 50 and four top-ranking hospitals in the metro area, according to the latest edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals.

Specialty rankings among the nation's top 50

Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis received a 37 ranking in cardiology and heart surgery; 30 in neurology and neurosurgery, and 43 in orthopedics. In addition to its national rankings, Abbott Northwestern is recognized for eight specialties:

  • ear, nose and throat ?
  • gastroenterology ?
  • geriatrics ?
  • gynecology ?
  • nephrology ?
  • pulmonology ?
  • urology ?

Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids received 49 ranking in diabetes and endocrinology. In addition to its national ranking, Mercy is recognized for seven specialties:

  • nephrology ?
  • neurology and neurosurgery ?
  • orthopedics ?
  • pulmonology ?
  • urology ?

Top-ranking hospitals in the Twin Cities metro

The metro list is created with data from the most recent national U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings. To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties.
