Take Heart Anoka offers AED grants
MINNEAPOLIS 11/19/2010--Take Heart Anoka, a community service program of Allina Hospitals & Clinics, funded by the Mercy & Unity Hospitals Foundation, is making available grants to help churches, schools, businesses and other community organizations obtain, install and be trained in the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
Grant applications are available online at takeheartanoka.org and must be completed and received by December 10, 2010. Grant recipients will be notified before the end of 2010.
"We encourage facilities that are open to the public to apply for these AED grants," said Susan Nygaard, manager, Allina community programs. "AEDs are critical to saving the lives of sudden cardiac arrest victims. SCA victims who receive CPR quickly and can be shocked with a nearby AED have a much greater chance of survival than if they have to wait for an ambulance to arrive."
AEDs placed by Take Heart Anoka and Allina's sister program, HeartSafe Communities, are credited with saving many lives throughout the area.
The Take Heart Anoka AED grants are available to organizations in Mercy and Unity hospitals' service area that includes these cities: Andover, Anoka, Big Lake, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Burns Township, Cedar, Centerville, Champlin, Circle Pines, Columbia Heights, Columbus, Coon Rapids, Crystal, Elk River, East Bethel, Fridley, Ham Lake, Hilltop, Isanti, Lino Lakes, Lindwood Township, Mounds View, New Brighton, New Hope, Oak Grove, Osseo, Ramsey, Roseville, Shoreview, Spring Lake Park, St. Anthony, St. Francis and Zimmerman.
