Abbott Northwestern Hospital receives highest nursing credential with prestigious Magnet® recognition . . . again

MINNEAPOLIS 03/25/2014--Abbott Northwestern Hospital has again attained Magnet® recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. This voluntary credentialing program for hospitals recognizes excellence in nursing. This credential is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.

With this achievement, Abbott Northwestern retains its place among the best of the best as part of the Magnet community—a select group of 401 healthcare organizations out of nearly 6,000 international healthcare organizations.

"It's an incredible honor to be recognized once again as being part of such an elite group of health care organizations," said Terry Graner, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, vice president of Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer.

"It takes a full team effort to deliver the high quality patient care and patient outcomes that we do at Abbott Northwestern. I'm so proud of the nurses in this organization for being leaders in these efforts and champions of nursing excellence. Their expertise and commitment are truly unparalleled."

To achieve Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff.

"Receiving Magnet designation for a second time confirms for us once again that Abbott Northwestern nurses are second to none," said Ben Bache-Wiig, MD, president, Abbott Northwestern. "Every day, patients and their families benefit from the nurses' skill and compassion. Abbott Northwestern's strong reputation for quality care is largely built on their excellence."

Magnet recognition has become the gold standard for nursing excellence and is taken into consideration when the public judges health care organizations. For example, U.S. News & World Report’s annual showcase of "America's Best Hospitals" includes Magnet recognition in its ranking criteria for quality of inpatient care.
