Allina hospitals receive national cancer care award
MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL, Minn. 03/30/2011--Allina's United Hospital, St. Paul, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, have received the 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons. This comes on the heels of Allina's Mercy and Unity Hospitals winning the same honors in 2009.
The prestigious award recognizes programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. United and Abbott Northwestern were among just 90 award winners nationwide, representing only 17 percent of more than 520 programs that were surveyed in 2010.
"We have always been proud of the exceptional care we are able to provide patients throughout their journey with cancer," said Jennifer Stanek, director of the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute - Abbott Northwestern Hospital. "It is a privilege to have the Commission on Cancer recognize our program for its multidisciplinary approach, high-quality and compassionate care."
"United Hospital's Cancer Care Services knows how to help. By combining compassionate, highly skilled cancer caregivers with the latest technologies and treatments, you can be assured you'll be well cared for. You'll be treated with kindness, respect and dignity. And, you'll be surrounded by people who truly care about what happens to you," said Daniel Foley, MD, vice president of medical affairs for United Hospital.
