Ongoing care is provided for those in remission as well as for those living with cancer. Care is given in both outpatient and inpatient settings. As an acknowlgement of this achievement, our cancer program is designated a Comprehensive Community Cancer Center by the Commission on Cancer. We are accredited by the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer and a 2009 recipient of the CoC's Outstanding Achievement Award. Because of the physical and emotional challenges that follow from a cancer diagnosis, supportive services for pain and other symptoms, nutritional needs, and psycho-social issues are crucial for our patients and their families. Our supportive care services also include a Cancer Resource Center, which offers complementary therapies and public education programs emphasizing cancer prevention and early detection.
A critical requirement for successful cancer care is an organization which allows patients to efficiently utilize the different components of the program. The different members of our cancer care team strive to maintain excellent communication to ensure that a patient receives all required care in a timely fashion without duplication. We are continually working to perfect this integration in our cancer program because we know that the end result will be improved longevity and quality of life for people in our community. |
