Excellian, the electronic medical records system of Allina Hospitals & Clinics
Web access

Excellian Web is a free, secure Web site that allows Allina's affiliated clinics to view portions of their patients' Excellian electronic medical records.

Users can access a list of all of their clinics' patients that are currently admitted in one of Allina's hospitals. They can also look up patients who have been discharged and access information about those visits.

Excellian Web is connected directly to Allina's Excellian database, so the information is always up-to-date.

With Excellian Web, users can view:

  • Chart Review
  • Lab and Procedure Results
  • Demographics
  • Insurance Information
  • Surgery Schedules

Excellian Web differs from Excellian remote access in that it offers read-only access to Excellian. Some portions of the record are not accessible to the clinic employee. Excellian Web users cannot order tests, add information to a patient's chart, or use any messaging functionality.

Intended users for Excellian® Web

Excellian Web is available to employees at clinics with a provider who is privileged at one of Allina's hospitals using Excellian for patient care.

Excellian Web is designed for the clinic's support staff – primarily business office professionals and care coordinators.

Security

Besides individual user security, each clinic must determine which method of "second-factor authentication" it will use.

Second-factor authentication protects patients' privacy and security. A user from outside Allina's network must be verified twice to assure that patients' data isn't compromised by an unapproved user.

Available methods of second factor authentication for Excellian Web include:

  • RSA Tokens: RSA Tokens are offered at cost, about $75 per token for a four-year-license.
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection between your Local Area Network (LAN) and Allina's (VPN LAN-to-LAN).

An Allina representative will work with your clinic to discuss the options and help you determine which method of second-factor authentication is right for your organization.

How to sign up

If you are a new clinic, contact Pennie Kohls at 612-262-6152 to obtain the necessary information and approval for Excellian Web access.

  • Clinics that would like to connect to Excellian Web must apply for an individual user name and password for each user who will connect to the site.
  • An external access agreement and a system access agreement must be signed by your clinic on behalf of all your users to verify that your clinic will ensure the security and confidentiality of patient information.
