Internship programs

The internship programs offer introductory, specialized training in clinical pastoral care, emphasizing spiritual/theological integration, ethical reflection, and pastoral leadership. Interns experience clinical assignments that provide in-depth exposure to specialty areas, enabling each student to become an integral part of the health care team.

Time commitment for these units vary from 26 hours per week in the hospital (plus scheduled on-call coverage) in the Fall and Spring, to 40 hours per week in the hospital (plus schedules on-call coverage) during the summer unit.

Fall 2014

Benefits include free parking and a complementary meal (up to $7) per day.

  • Abbott Northwestern Hospital: September 2 to December 19, 2014 - all positions filled
  • Unity Hospital: September 2 to December 19, 2014 - all positions filled

Fall 2014 Super-Extended Unit

  • St. Francis Regional Medical Center: September 15, 2014 to May 8, 2015 - all positions filled

Spring 2015

Benefits include free parking and a complementary meal (up to $7) per day.

  • Abbott Northwestern Hospital: January 26 to May 15, 2015 - 5 positions available
  • Unity Hospital: January 26 to May 15, 2015- 3 positions available
  • St. Francis Regional Medical Center: mid-January to mid-June - 4 positions available - Email Cary Eustis for more detailed information.

Summer 2015

Benefits include free parking and a complementary meal (up to $7) per day.

  • Mercy & Unity Hospitals: June 1 to August 15, 2015 - 5 positions available
  • St. Francis Regional Medical Center: May 26 to August 7, 2015 - 4 positions available
  • United Hospital: June 1 to August 15, 2015 - 6 positions available

Tuition

$700 first unit, $350 additional units. (A $350 security deposit is required within 2 weeks of being accepted. This non-refundable deposit is applied to the first unit tuition.)

Residency program descriptions

The Abbott Northwestern Hospital CPE Residency Program

This program includes four units of ACPE-accredited clinical pastoral education and offers advanced, specialized training in clinical pastoral care, emphasizing spiritual/theological integration, ethical reflection, and pastoral leadership. Residents experience clinical assignments that provide in-depth exposure to specialty areas, enabling each student to become an integral part of the health care team.

The Mercy Hospital CPE Residency Program

This program includes three units of ACPE-accredited clinical pastoral education and offers advanced, specialized training in clinical pastoral care, emphasizing spiritual/theological integration, ethical reflection, and pastoral leadership. Residents experience clinical assignments that provide in-depth exposure to specialty areas, enabling each student to become an integral part of the health care team.

The United Hospital CPE Residency Program

This program includes three units of ACPE-accredited clinical pastoral education and offers advanced, specialized training in clinical pastoral care, emphasizing spiritual/theological integration, ethical reflection, and pastoral leadership. Residents experience clinical assignments that provide in-depth exposure to specialty areas, enabling each student to become an integral part of the health care team.

Salary and benefits

Salary

Part of salary may be designated as non-taxable housing if ordained or commissioned.

2014-2015 residency program salary rates are as follows:

  • Abbott Northwestern Hospital (12 month program): $29,725 plus compensation for scheduled on-call coverage
  • Mercy Hospital (9 month program): $22,293 plus compensation for scheduled on-call coverage
  • United Hospital (9 month program): $22,293 plus compensation for scheduled on-call coverage

Tuition
