David Carlson is an ordained (1966) Lutheran Pastor (M.Div.) in the ELCA. He graduated from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL. (1960), and Lutheran School of Theology also in Rock Island. (1965). He holds a Masters degree in pastoral counseling and psychology (STM.) from Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, MA. (1966).  Following five years of parish ministry in Milwaukee, he has served 34 years as Chaplain or Director of Pastoral Services in men’s and women’s corrections, state mental health institute, and general hospitals in Wisconsin, Iowa and recently retired from Fairview-University Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN. He became the ACPE Supervisor at Mercy/Unity in August 2009.

Rev. Caroline (Cary) Eustis, M.Div. (St. Francis Regional Medical Center), is an Associate ACPE Supervisor and Chaplain at St. Francis. She has her B.S. in Psychology from Macalester College in St. Paul. Her M.Div. is from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. Cary completed her first unit of CPE at Abbott Northwestern Hospital and her CPE Residency at United Hospital in St. Paul. Her congregational internships were at First Unitarian Society, Minneapolis and First Unitarian Church of St. Louis in Missouri. Cary is an ordained minister in the Unitarian Universalist Association. Before coming to St. Francis she was in ACPE supervisory training at the University of Minnesota Medical Center – Fairview. There she also served as a chaplain for over five years in acute adult and geriatric behavioral health and cardio/pulmonary medicine. Cary lives in St. Paul with her husband. Their two adult children live in the Twin Cities.

Kim is a CPE Supervisor, CPE Program Coordinator, and Staff Chaplain at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She has her B.A. from Concordia College, Moorhead and M.Div. from Luther Seminary in St. Paul. She did congregational internship in an Anglican church in the suburbs of London, England, and completed CPE residency at Abbott Northwestern. Kim is ordained in the Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.) and is active in the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area. She has served as a staff chaplain at United Hospital with a focus on oncology, hospice and mental health for 14 years. She joined the chaplain staff at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in 2012. Kim lives in south Minneapolis with her husband and two children where she is active in neighborhood revitalization, house restoration, and community livability.

Verlyn is Director of the Allina Health Metro Hospitals Spiritual Care and Pastoral Education Department and is a CPE supervisor at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. His undergraduate degree is in psychology from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He has an M. Div. and a D.Min. from Western Seminary in Holland, Michigan. He took his first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education in Des Moines at Iowa Methodist and did his residency at Pine Rest in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ordained in the Reformed Church in America since 1979, he has served three parishes over a 20-year time span: Twin Lakes Reformed (Kalamazoo, Michigan); Church of the Saviour (Coopersville, MI); and Peace Reformed (Eagan, Minnesota). He began working at United Hospital in 2000 and offered the first unit of CPE there during the summer of 2000. He is married and has a son and a daughter.

Shawn is Manager of Spiritual Care at United Hospital in St. Paul and is a CPE supervisor at United.  His undergraduate degree is in religion and sociology from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and his Master of Divinity degree is from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN.  He took his first unit of CPE at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS and completed a four unit residency year at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s in Denver, Co.  Ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1992, Shawn served Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis from 1992-1997.  He has served as a hospice chaplain with Fairview Hospice and as Executive Director of Spiritual Care for Walker Methodist in Minneapolis from 1999-2012.  He offered his first unit of CPE at City of Lakes CPE at Walker in 2005.  He is partnered and has a son and a daughter.

Mark is a chaplain and CPE supervisor serving Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. His undergraduate degree is in religious studies/youth ministry from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth MN, and he has a Master of Divinity degree from Chicago Theological Seminary. Mark did his CPE residency at The University of Chicago Medical Center and his supervisory training with Advocate Health Care in Chicago. He served at various hospital and hospice venues in Chicago before moving to the Twin Cities. Mark is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ and began his ministry at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in the fall of 2010.

Kyle Vlach, a native Minnesotan, is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Covenant Church. His education includes a B.S. in Psychology and M.Div. with Post-graduate Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary, and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He completed both his CPE Internship and Residency at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Kyle is a CPE Supervisor with the Allina Health CPE Center, and serves as Staff Chaplain at United Hospital in St. Paul. Before coming to United, Kyle’s experience included 7 years as chaplain and pastoral educator at the Allina Health St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee, MN, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Kyle lives in St. Paul with his wife and daughter.

Administrative Coordinator, Allina Health Spiritual Care and Pastoral Education

 

Matthew is the Administrative Coordinator for the Spiritual Care and Pastoral Education Department and the Allina Health CPE Center.  In this position, he is responsible for the daily operations of the Allina Health CPE Center and the general administrative work of the metropolitan Allina Health spiritual care departments. Born and raised in the Twin Cities, he recently graduated with his degree in Business Management from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN.  He is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, is married and has one daughter.  He has been with the department since 2006.
