Screening and diagnostic testsUnderstanding the signs, symptoms and risk factors for breast cancer is important to overall breast health awareness. Routine mammography, clinical breast examination and breast self-examination are the basic screening tools for early detection of breast cancer.
Piper Breast Center®'s advanced screening and diagnostic services can also detect and evaluate breast conditions such as a new lump, cysts, microcalcifications, fibrocystic breast changes, mastitis, concerns about breast implants and cancer. 
Fibrocystic breast changesFibrocystic breast disease refers to benign (noncancerous) changes in the tissues of the breast. The term "disease" in this case is misleading, and many health care providers prefer the term "change." Learn more about fibrocystic breast changes in our health library.
MammographyA mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts. It is used to find tumors and to help tell the difference between noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) disease.
Ultrasound (sonography)Breast ultrasound is the use of ultrasonic sound waves (sounds that cannot be heard by humans) to produce an image of breast tissue.
Breast biopsiesA breast biopsy is the removal of breast tissue to examine it for signs of breast cancer or other disorders.
MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive way to take pictures of the body.
Bone mineral density analysisA bone mineral density (BMD) test can help your health care provider confirm a diagnosis of osteoporosis.
