Abbott Northwestern granted Magnet™ designation
On Friday, Feb. 13, The American Nurses Credentialing Center has granted Magnet recognition status to Abbott Northwestern Hospital, making it one of only 334 hospitals nationwide — less than five percent of all U.S. hospitals — that have been designated Magnet facilities. The designation is the highest level of recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is valid for four years.
Nursing is at the forefront of Abbott Northwestern Hospital's excellence. Our Nursing Department is made up of more than 1,600 nurses, each with their own goals, ideas and strengths. In departments and units across the hospital, nurses make contributions - small and large, day after day - that have a real impact on the lives of patients and their families.
The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) is the professional organization for registered nurses. More than 19,000 nurses in Minnesota are members of MNA and Abbott Northwestern Hospital's nurses have a strong presence in the association.

The discipline of nursing is developed and advanced through quality research. Nursing research examines areas of knowledge and practice that are of special concern for nurses. The nursing research efforts at Abbott Northwestern Hospital support the mission of the department of nursing and the commitment to excellence in patient care.
