Founded in 2003 at Abbott Northwestern, the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing is the largest integrative health center embedded in a health system in the country. Its mission is to empower individuals and communities to improve their health and wellness by partnering with them and providing exceptional care.

Through the end of 2013, the George Family Foundation will match all new or increased gifts to the Penny George Institute dollar-for-dollar up to $75,000.

Over the past decade, the Penny George Institute has transformed care at Allina Health. It provides patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings, educates health professionals, engages the community in healthy living through prevention and wellness, and researches best practices in integrative therapies.

Many of its programs and services have served as a national model, such as its innovative Transformative Nurse Training program—a 32-hour curriculum grounded in holistic nursing philosophy, principles and theory, with a focus on professional development and self-care. Penny George Institute practitioners now teach the program at hospitals across the country.
