Infectious disease


Infectious disease specialists diagnose and treat all kinds of infections. This includes illnesses caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.

They have special knowledge in the use of antibiotics.

Infectious disease specialists may focus on the care of people with HIV infection (the cause of AIDS) and hepatitis C. Many also are experts in preventive medicine, vaccinations and travel medicine.
