There are different types of hysterectomy surgeries. Your doctor will talk with you about the type of surgery you will be having.

Total hysterectomy

During a total hysterectomy, the uterus and cervix are removed.

Subtotal (supracervical) hysterectomy

During a subtotal hysterectomy, the uterus is removed, leaving the cervix in place.

During a salpingo-oophorectomy, one or both of the ovaries and fallopian tubes are removed. (The term for this is unilateral or bilateral.)
