A heart transplant is an accepted procedure by Medicare and most insurance companies.

About 2,100 people receive a heart transplant every year in the United States. You have joined a small but growing number of people given this special gift.

The goal of the heart transplant is to add years to your life and improve the your quality of your life. The current national one-year survival rate for adult heart recipients is 90.2 percent. Abbott Northwestern Hospital's one-year survival rate is 91.67 percent.
