Severed body part

If your child loses a finger, toe or other body part, put it in a cold, clean cloth or gauze and put it in a plastic bag.

Take your child and the bag to the hospital emergency department. Doctors may be able to reattach the part, but time is critical.

To avoid awkward sentences, instead of referring to your child as "he/she" or "him/her," this guide will alternate between "he" or she" and "him" or "her."
