Garage door opener

Automatic garage door openers are a hidden danger. Your child could accidentally get trapped under a closing garage door.

There are a few safety precautions you can take to avoid an accident:

  • Test the garage door opener every season. If the door does not reverse when you test it, have the opener professionally checked or replaced.
  • Keep the door opener out of your child's reach.
  • Never let your child play around the garage door, even when it is closed.
  • If your child is with you when you return home, make sure you know where she is when closing the garage door.

To avoid awkward sentences, instead of referring to your child as "he/she" or "him/her," this guide will alternate between "he" or she" and "him" or "her."
