Eye injuries

If your child has an eye injury, wash the sand or dirt from your child's eye with clean, warm tap water. Flush out the sand or dirt with lots of water.

Take your child to your health care provider or to a hospital emergency room if your child:

  • has an object in the eye (such as glass or a bug), or any type of burn to the eye
  • receives an injury to an eye and has visible eye damage, bleeding, double or blurred vision or unequal pupils.
