What is interventional neuroradiology?
If you have a condition that affects your brain, spine or spinal cord, you may be treated by a doctor who specializes in interventional neuroradiology. This type of doctor uses medical imaging and special techniques to see inside your body and diagnose and treat your condition. Because these procedures use very small incisions and instruments, you may recover faster than you would with a traditional surgery.
Interventional neuroradiology is often used for stroke treatment, brain aneurysm treatment and other conditions that affect blood flow to the brain, spine and spinal cord. Other names for this specialty include endovascular neurosurgery, neurointerventional radiology and neurointerventional surgery.
