Choosing a child care provider

Choosing a child care provider

If you plan to go back to work after staying home with your child, it's important to find someone who will provide quality care for your child.

You may find a relative or friend who will care for your baby. Other types of child care include hiring an in-home nanny, taking your child to a day care provider's home, and taking your child to a child care center. Ask friends, family and neighbors for recommendations.

No matter which type of child care you choose, it is important that you feel your child will be safe and protected.

  • Does the provider seem mature, calm and flexible?
  • Do you feel confident in their abilities?
  • Is it a clean and safe place?
  • How will the provider treat your child?

Choosing a babysitter

If you don't have family members who can watch your child, you can still find a sitter. Ask friends, neighbors, co-workers, teachers, clergy or other adults you trust for recommendations. Consider questions to ask potential sitters.
